Having started my career in sales at the original Barneys New York 17th Street in Manhattan while interning in the fashion closet of Harper’s Bazaar, I couldn’t help but fall in love with all things fashion. The allure of sequins, the whimsy of feathers, the serious draping of red carpet gowns and the perfectly constructed jacket all wooed me into the life of fashion.
Though I started off wearing predominately post-college GAP pieces, my obsession with all things chic (yet within my fledgling budget) became my signature mix of high-end and low (immortalized in this drawing by Donald Robertson, then the creative director of Marie Claire, where I was working at the time). I’m standing on a chair in the supply closet wearing a $10 XOXO orange A-line polyester dress with the of-the- moment Prada stacked heels that cost me two paychecks and many dinners of supermarket ramen.
I went on to become a magazine fashion editor, then decided I was a stylist at heart and spent more than a decade at MTV styling on-air hosts and celebrity talent. After moving cross country with my family to LA, I joined the Motion Picture Costumers union and settled into a position in the costume department at Warner Brothers.
I have seen a lot of clothes. My friends and family often ask me where or how I found something so I figured I’d start sharing the worthwhile finds with everyone. The forever pieces. Wardrobe staples. Trends worth trying. Compliment-worthy pieces. How to shop your own closet. And of course, when to invest and when it’s ok to show up at an event in a $10 dress and Prada heels.
